Livio Scarpella (1969- )
Livio Scarpella is well known for his group of sculptures named "Ghosts Underground". Each sculpture portrays a soul beneath the effect of a thin veil and are considered to be "damned" or "blessed" based on the dark and light colored minerals embedded in their chests. The minerals are hardened hearts that embody the ghost hidden within. Antonio Corradini’s “Veiled Christ” inspired Scarpella to explore the struggle of religious faith through sculpture.
Scarpella was born in Ghedi, Italy and currently lives and works in Brescia, Italy.
