Bruno Walpoth is known not only for his lifelike wood sculptures, but also for his nudes that have "something unnerving about the vulnerability of [his] all-too-humanlike wood figures" (Piowaty). Of his sculptures Walpoth says, "For me it is important that the viewer’s gaze does not stop at the surface of my sculptures but goes beyond the outward realism to capture the inner life of the work" (Piowaty).
Walpoth was born in Bressanone, Italy in 1959. He attended school in Ortisei, Italy where he now lives and works.
